  • Habi­tat: Pri­mar­i­ly fresh­wa­ter organ­isms inhab­it­ing stag­nant water.
  • Cell Struc­ture: Lack a rigid cell wall; pos­sess a pro­tein-rich lay­er called a pel­li­cle, pro­vid­ing flex­i­bil­i­ty.
  • Move­ment: Equipped with two fla­gel­la, one short and one long, for loco­mo­tion.
  • Nutri­tion: Exhib­it mixotroph­ic nutri­tion:
    • Pho­to­syn­thet­ic in the pres­ence of sun­light (autotroph­ic).
    • Het­erotroph­ic in the absence of sun­light, pre­dat­ing on small­er organ­isms.
  • Pig­ments: Con­tain pho­to­syn­thet­ic pig­ments iden­ti­cal to those found in high­er plants (chloro­phyll a and b).
